With future focus on Austin, Delta opens Sky Lounge at ABIA

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Delta Airlines’ newest project at Austin-Bergstrom International airport is set to open Tuesday morning as the airline considers more business in Austin.

Delta’s new Sky Club, which features a 9,000 square foot circular lounge near the Delta gates along with a covered patio, opens Tuesday at 5 a.m.

Delta was fourth in total passengers at ABIA in 2018 trailing Southwest Airlines, American Airlines and United.

However, Delta’s interest in Austin has picked up over the last 18 months. Last year, Delta designated Austin as one of its four “focus cities” with the potential for more direct flights and larger planes.

Austin joined Boston, Cincinnati and Raleigh-Durham on the airlines’ focus city list. In 2018, ABIA was the fastest growing airport in the country.

ABIA’s Delta Sky Lounge will feature art work from regional artists.
