AUSTIN (KXAN) — Eight people have been displaced from their homes early Sunday morning after a fire at a west Austin apartment building.

The Austin Fire Department responded to the 7600 block of Woodhollow Drive around 7:24 a.m. The fire began on a first-floor balcony and extended to another balcony on the second floor.

The building was evacuated, according to officials, and crews were working on an overhaul.

Though the flames were knocked down minutes later by 7:30 a.m., two apartments endured fire control and smoke damage. Eight people are now displaced, and Red Cross of Central Texas is responding to their cases.
