UT issues warning after male student sexually assaulted

A safety alert went out to students at the University of Texas Thursday morning after a male student reported being sexually assaulted Wednesday night.

According to University Police, the student told 911 he was assaulted by a man inside a restroom in Bellmont Hall at 8:45 p.m.

The alert said the student identified his attacker as white, possibly wearing glasses, dressed in tan pants and brown or gray hiking boots. He said the person was older than a teenager.

Police ask if you saw anyone matching that description in the area to call 911. Police have increased patrols and are actively investigating.

If at any time you feel unsafe walking through campus, use the SURE Ride program for a free ride or SURE Walk for a student to walk with you by calling 512-232-9255.  At any time you may call the non-emergency number at UTPD and an officer will accompany you. That non-emergency line is 512-471-4441, ext. 9.
