AUSTIN (KXAN) — Wreaths Across America honored veterans at the Texas State Cemetery Saturday morning, in light of National Wreaths Across America Day.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and other local people of influence gathered for an honorable ceremony to commemorate fallen soldiers. Guests present placed wreaths on the graves of soldiers and dignitaries such as Chris Kyle, Stephen F. Austin, and Barbara Jordan.
Among honoring veterans, seven wreaths were placed at the grave sites of military leaders. Each wreath honored a United States military branch, Prisoners of War or those Missing in Action, and Gold Star families.
The event here in Austin was just one of over 1,500 other ceremonies across the globe. Members of the local community can sponsor a wreath from the WAA for $15. To learn more, visit the Wreaths Across America site.
