AUSTIN (KXAN) — A SWAT standoff in northeast Austin has been ended peacefully, according to Austin police,

APD reported in a tweet that SWAT was called to the area of Sandshof Drive and Aries Lane near Loyola Lane. They reported that SWAT was called in for a barricaded person.

APD reported that the subject is armed, and the incident stemmed from a family disturbance call that came in at 3 a.m. When police arrived on the scene, the suspect had left.

Around 5 a.m., police say they received a text message from the original caller who told them that the suspect had returned and was armed with a knife. The message said that if police tried to make contact with anyone in the home the suspect would harm them and the other family members.

Without a way to make contact with the suspect or hostages, a SWAT team and hostage negotiator was called in.

Homes nearby have been evacuated, and police say that around 8:15 a.m. the hostages in the house were released.
