AUSTIN (KXAN) — To get the word out about Texas’ distracted driving law, the Texas Department of Transportation worked with Jensen Ackles, one of the stars of the CW’s “Supernatural” and native Texan, to shoot a public service announcement.

Ackles, who lives in Austin when he’s not shooting the show in Vancouver, B.C., posted to his Instagram that it’s a law that he “couldn’t agree with more.”

In the video, Ackles, leaning against a cherry red pickup truck, says, “There’s a lot of scary stuff out there, but you know what’s really scary? Distracted drivers.”

He even gets into his Texas twang with, “Not cool ya’ll.” The video is part of the agency’s “Heads Up, Texas” campaign.

According to TxDOT, in 2017, 19 percent of crashes involved distracted driving. During the last legislative session, Gov. Greg Abbott signed the statewide texting while driving ban into law. The law went into effect on Sept. 1, 2017.
