AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Film Festival and Texas Book Festival begin this week, bringing in thousands of visitors from across Texas and the nation.

The Austin Film Festivals starts Thursday and will continue through Thursday, Nov. 1. This year marks the festival’s 25th anniversary.

The festival will showcase films featuring stars like Vigo Mortensen, Mickey Rourke, Jake Gyllenhaal, Carey Mulligan and Julia Roberts.

The Austin Film Festival also dedicates an entire category to Texas and local filmmakers.

On Halloween, the festival will be having a special viewing of Hocus Pocus, with the film’s writer Mick Garris.

The Texas Book Festival begins Saturday, Oct. 27, and will last through the weekend. The festival will take place in and around the Texas State Capitol building.

On Saturday there will be a “lit crawl” in east Austin along venues down East Cesar Chavez Street. The crawl will feature expert panels, spoken word poetry and a short story reading contest.

The festival will also feature over 250 authors, reading and book signings, as well as more than 80 vendors/exhibitors including some of Austin’s favorite local food trucks.
