AUSTIN (KXAN) — A driver died after rear-ending a car on the MoPac Expressway that had stopped for an emergency vehicle last week, Austin police said Thursday.

John Monroe Guiling, 86, was taken to the hospital after the crash on April 14. He died Tuesday.

Austin police say a Mitsubishi sedan heading south stopped on the 11200 block of North MoPac Expressway, near U.S. Highway 183, to yield right-of-way to an emergency vehicle. That’s when the Chevrolet pickup Guiling was driving hit the sedan from behind, police say.

This is the 23rd fatal traffic crash this year and the 24th person to die. Last year at this time, there were 19 deadly crashes and 20 people died.
