AUSTIN (KXAN) — Three pedestrians were hit and killed by vehicles across Austin in a four-day stretch last month.
Luis Cristobal Landeros, 50, was killed on East Anderson Lane in northeast Austin on Thursday, July 26 when a car jumped the curb and hit him on the sidewalk around 8:40 a.m. He was taken to the hospital and died a short time later, police said.
Landeros’ sister told KXAN her brother was having car trouble and he was working to get his battery changed when he was hit.
The second incident happened around 5:30 a.m. on Friday, July 27 in downtown Austin.
Police say a pedestrian, identified as 23-year-old David O’Beirne, was walking west across the southbound main lanes of Interstate 35 near Fifth Street when he was struck by an 18-wheeler.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Two days later, on Sunday, July 29, a man was standing in the southbound lanes of the 11600 block of Manchaca Road in south Austin, near Frate Barker Road, when he was hit by a pickup truck going southbound, according to police.
The crash happened just after 10:30 p.m., killing 63-year-old Tennie Ross, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Anyone with information on the incidents is asked to call the Vehicular Homicide Unit at 512-974-3761 or by submitting a tip on the Austin PD mobile app.
The Manchaca Road incident was Austin’s 38th deadly traffic crash of 2018. At this time last year, the department said there were 32 deadly crashes.
