Thousands march in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Thousands of people around the country paid tribute to Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Monday and Austinites joined in. 

The annual MLK Community Celebration and March took began Monday morning starting with a march from the University of Texas, Austin that ends at Huston-Tillotson University in east Austin. 

The celebration will continue till about 3:30 p.m. with live music and other activities. People attending the event are encouraged to bring canned goods or nonperishable items to donate to the Capital Area Food Bank.

The City of Austin administrative offices and municipal facilities will be closed Monday in observance of the day.
