Texas and Georgia fans enjoy rivalry during bowl game

Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Longhorn fans packed bars across Austin to watch Texas take on Georgia in the Sugar Bowl Tuesday night.

At the Tavern on Lamar, where Georgia fans often meet for games, the mix of opposing fans made for a rowdy night.

“You found the one Georgia bar in Austin, Texas,” said Longhorns fan Greg Beckham. “The one friendly bar for a team like that.” When asked what he meant by a team like that, Beckham laughed, “Well, nobody goes to the University of Georgia because they’re a brain surgeon.”

Georgia fans say they came ready for those types of jokes.

“I expect that,” laughed Stacy Gravley, who’s from Georgia originally. “I’m in Austin, right?”

Longhorns fans said in all seriousness, they were very excited to see Texas play its first January bowl game since 2010.

“It’s better than the Pluckers bowl, like, it’s a real bowl,” said Longhorns fan Larry Anazia.

“Yeah, Sugar Bowl, it’s good for them,” smiled Anazia’s friend, Zephyr Lutz. “It’s good for everybody’s morale.”
