AUSTIN (KXAN) — A teen who was killed last Saturday night as he crossed Interstate 35 on foot has been identified by Austin police.
At about 10:55 p.m. Saturday, 15-year-old Cesar Saunders was trying to cross the interstate near the 14000 block of N. I-35 when a Honda Civic traveling northbound struck him, police say.
Saunders and the driver of the car were both transported to local hospitals. Saunders succumbed to his injuries at about 1:14 a.m. Sunday. The driver was admitted to intensive care.
Anyone with information about this wreck is asked to contact APD’s Vehicular Homicide Unit at (512) 974-5594.
This was the 31st fatal wreck in Austin this year that resulted in the 32nd death. Last week, Police Chief Brian Manley said there have been 30% more traffic deaths this year than last year and officials are concerned.
