AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man suspected of robbing a Target store while yielding a knife near the University of Texas at Austin campus Friday morning was taken into custody after about an hour of searching.

UT police first tweeted just after 8 a.m. to notify students and staff that Austin police were responding to reports of an armed robbery at the store at the 2000 block of Guadalupe Street near campus.

The suspect police were searching for was described as a “white male, 18-20 years of age, 5’9″, 170 pounds, blue sweatshirt with Austin Fire Department lettering on back, and black pants.”

The Target was not closed after the incident and customers were still shopping while police searched the area for the suspect. The scene was cleared by 8:51 a.m., police tweeted. Target said it is providing security footage to law enforcement.

The Austin Fire Department later tweeted at police, saying “Thanks for apprehending him so quickly! We’re looking forward to getting our sweatshirt back as he is most definitely NOT a member of our department.”
