AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin police are responding to a suspicious death in north Austin that caused a lockdown at a nearby elementary school.

Police were initially called to a shoot/stab call in the 1000 block of Norwood Park Boulevard at 12:33 p.m. Members of APD’s homicide and robbery units were both called to respond at a Walmart parking lot.

According to Austin Travis County EMS, a man had “penetrating trauma” in the area. Although lifesaving measures were taken, those efforts were unsuccessful and a man was pronounced dead on scene.

Hart Elementary School, which is less than a mile from the scene, was on lockout for about 20 minutes starting around 1 p.m. because of the police activity nearby.

Police say there is limited public information available because it is still very early on in the investigation and they hope to maintain the integrity of the case. APD would not release the details of the victim’s injuries.

No arrests have been made and at last report, there is no suspect information at this time.

By Tuesday afternoon, the scene remained active with law enforcement, leaving portions of the Walmart parking lot roped off. However, the store remained open for customers.

If anyone has any information about this case, they are asked to contact the homicide tip line at 512-477-3588.
