AUSTIN (KXAN) — In a strange, early morning chain of events, two suspected drunk drivers hit an Austin Police Department vehicle and an ambulance, injuring a medic.

It began at 1:11 a.m. when two police cars pulled over a suspected drunk driver traveling south on North MoPac Expressway near US 183.

Shortly after that, police say a suspected drunk driver hit the police cars. So, an Austin-Travis County EMS ambulance came to assist, and at 2:10 a.m. a third suspected drunk driver hit it.

Two people went to the hospital, including the medic. An Austin police officer investigating the first crash was taken to the hospital as a precaution and was later released. ATCEMS says they are both expected to be OK.

Three people were arrested and driving while intoxicated charges are pending.
