AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force caught a suspect wanted in connection with an alleged aggravated sexual assault Nov. 9 in east Austin.

The US Marshals-led law enforcement team arrested Steven M. Guerrero, 23 of Austin, on Nov. 24 and accused him of dragging a woman into an alley on East Seventh Street in Austin, sexually assaulting her and beating her until she was unconscious.

An arrest affidavit said the assault was captured on video surveillance. After the violent attack, Guerrero was seen on video taking the victim’s bag before walking away. Guerrero allegedly came back a few minutes later to conceal the unconscious victim by dragging her 30 to 40 yards and placing her between “a large white storage container and a green trash dumpster.”

A Sexually Assault Forensic Exam (SAFE) was done on the victim, and she was taken to the hospital ICU for treatment, the affidavit said.

Several tips were submitted during the investigation about Guerrero being the suspect, the affidavit said. Law enforcement databases were used to gather more details about him, including pictures, according to the affidavit. Investigators also collected Guerrero’s DNA from a cigarillo butt, which was compared to DNA evidence taken from the victim.

The team found Guerrero at a residence in the 1500 block of Spring Peony Court in Pflugerville where he was arrested without incident, the US Marshals said in a press release.

Guerrero is in custody in the Travis County Jail with a bond of $550,000, the press release said. He’s charged with aggravated sexual assault, a first-degree felony, along with aggravated assault, a second-degree felony.
