STAAR testing begins this week

Students across Texas will take standardized tests this week. The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness program was implemented in 2012 and tests various grade levels in mathematics, reading, writing, social studies and science. Below is the schedule for students in the Austin Independent School District:

Tuesday, April 10

  • Grade 4 Writing
  • Grade 5 Mathematics
  • Grade 7 Writing
  • Grade 8 Mathematics
  • EO English I

Wednesday, April 11

  • Grade 5 Reading
  • Grade 6 who take Grade 8 Mathematics
  • Grade 7 who take Grade 8 Mathematics
  • Grade 8 Reading

Thursday April 12

  • Grade 4, 5, 7, 8 make-up testing
  • EOC English II

Friday

  • EOC make-up testing

Testing will continue the weeks of May 7 and May 14, and Advanced Placement exams will take place May 7-18.

McDonald’s is also offering free breakfast on the first day of testing Tuesday for students in grades 3-8 who go to a participating restaurant with a parent, as well as teachers who bring their ID cards. They must come in between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. to get either an Egg White Delight McMuffin or Fruit and Maple Oatmeal. Both come with apple slices and either milk or apple juice.
