AUSTIN (KXAN) — The University of Texas Police Department is responding to the school’s Mary E. Gearing Hall where a smoke device was used to interrupt a student event, according to police.
UTPD also confirmed Monday evening that a fire alarm was also pulled during the incident.
On Twitter Monday night, the official Twitter account for the Young Conservatives of Texas at UT Austin tweeted:
BREAKING: Tonight at an event where @ryanbomberger was speaking on pro-life issues, someone set off a smoke bomb right outside the lecture hall leading to someone pulling the fire alarm and making us evacuate our space. The building was evacuated. No injuries are reported and a criminal investigation is underway.
