PARKLAND, Florida (NBC/KXAN) — A second survivor of the infamous Parkland shooting has died within a week in an “apparent suicide,” according to police on Sunday.
The Coral Springs Police Department Public Officer, Tyler Reik, says the victim was a minor and current student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. The age, gender, and name of the student, however, have not yet been released.
This news comes nearly a week after another Parkland shooting survivor and recent graduate of the high school, Sydney Aiello, 19, died from suicide as well, according to a report from the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Aiello, a student at the time of the school shooting, was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder soon after the incident that killed 17 people.
According to Aiello’s mother, Cara, her daughter had been struggling in college because classrooms scared her.
Coral Springs Police officials say that an investigation into the unidentified student’s death is ongoing.
