AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man faces a murder charge after a fight over a Facebook post led to the fatal stabbing of a man at a north Austin apartment complex on Sunday night, according to an affidavit filed in court.
Erick Reytor-Ramirez, 35, was stabbed Sunday night at an apartment complex at the 8800 block of North Interstate 35. He died Monday afternoon.
Two witnesses told Travis County Sheriff’s deputies that they were with 20-year-old Sergio Torres Quesada at an apartment cooking dinner together and drinking Sunday night. One witness told the deputy he saw Quesada chopping meat with a knife, officials wrote in the affidavit.
The three took a photo together and posted it on Quesada’s Facebook page and Reytor-Ramirez, who lived in the same apartment complex, allegedly commented on it, witnesses told deputies. Quesada and Reytor-Ramirez allegedly exchanged several negative comments on the photo.
The witnesses told deputies that suddenly there was a banging on the door and Reytor-Ramirez burst in unannounced. Witnesses say Quesada had gone to the bathroom and Reytor-Ramirez went there after asking where he was.
Deputies wrote that neither witness saw what happened next. They told officials they could hear a scuffle and then Reytor-Ramirez allegedly shouted that he had been stabbed and ran out of the apartment.
Reytor-Ramirez was taken to a hospital for treatment where he later succumbed to his injuries. Quesada told police when he was in the bathroom, Reytor-Ramirez pushed him, causing him to bump his head and blackout. He also denied having knife with him. Knives confiscated from the scene were tested for blood and no evidence was found.
Quesada was initially arrested and charged with second-degree aggravated assault but later, when Reytor-Ramirez died, his charges were upgraded to first-degree murder. His bail was set at $225,000.
