Road flares possibly cause APD patrol vehicle to catch fire

AUSTIN (KXAN) — An Austin police officer suffered minor injuries after her Ford SUV patrol vehicle caught fire Thursday night.

The Austin Fire Department says the vehicle caught fire around 9:42 p.m. at the corner of Govalle Avenue and Tillery Street in east Austin. 

Austin fire says it appears the fire started in the cargo area of the vehicle and was “either caused or exacerbated by road flares.” 

The officer was treated on scene and released.
