Police: Stranger breaks into Austin woman’s apartment, sexually assaults her

Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A stranger broke into a woman’s apartment in northwest Austin before attacking and sexually assaulting her, according to Austin police.

Police were called out to the High Oaks Apartment Homes on Jollyville road around 1:45 p.m. Monday.

The suspect was described as having medium brown skin with hairy arms.

People who live in the apartments are on alert and the defensive.

“It makes you scared and you want answers and someone to be caught,” said resident Vanessa Haramina. “A lot of times that doesn’t happen.”

High Oaks management left notes on residents doors letting them know what happened. The note also offered safety tips. Residents said the attack and assault happened in a building night next to Jollyville Road. The apartment complex doesn’t have any gates or fences that could prevent someone from entering.

“I just keep watch of my surroundings, I have a gun, cause I’m a Texan,” said resident Michele Risch.

APD’s Sex Crimes Unit is seeking the public’s assistance to identify the suspect from this incident.
