Police seeking information on Research Blvd. hit-and-run

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the driver who left the scene of a fatal crash that happened April 26 in the 8200 block of Research Boulevard’s southbound service road.

Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene around 8:07 p.m., where APD’s preliminary investigation shows that a red Ford F-150 driven by Leon Salmeron, 23, was traveling southbound when the driver of a grey 2005 Honda Accord failed to yield the right of way from a private drive while attempting to exit The Park at Crestview Apartments.

Salmeron’s F-150 and the Honda collided, causing the F-150 to hit a concrete support column.

Salmeron was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Honda left the scene on foot. Once identified, the driver will be charged with failure to stop and render aid.

If you have any information on this case, you’re asked to call APD’s Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at (512) 974-4424.

This is Austin’s 24th fatal traffic crash of 2019, resulting in 25 fatalities this year. At this point in 2018, there were 20 fatal traffic crashes and 21 traffic fatalities.
