Police searching for man with machete after three stabbed at mobile home park

Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Law enforcement officials are searching for a man who allegedly tied up an ex-girlfriend and stabbed her and two others at a mobile home park in northeast Austin Thursday night.

The woman in her early 20s has potentially life-threatening injuries, according to Austin-Travis County EMS.

A warrant has been issued for Carlos Moreno-Mejia, 23. The Travis County Sheriff’s Office said the car he left the scene in was found abandoned in Bexar County.

Medics were called to the 500 block of East Howard Lane near South Heatherwilde Boulevard at 10:12 p.m. TCSO said a woman who lived at the park had been “bound, assaulted and tortured by her ex-boyfriend.” The woman’s cousin, who called 911, said the suspect stabbed her and her boyfriend when they arrived home. They also went to the hospital, but ATCEMS says they have minor injuries.

Neighbors nearby said they heard police searching for Moreno-Mejia.

“I kept hearing the helicopter fly over the house,” said Rhedd Coney, who lives a few doors down. “It’s really troubling to hear this actually over in this neighborhood.”

The U.S. Marshal Lone Star Fugitive Task Force is searching for Moreno-Mejia and asks anyone with information to call 512-854-1444 or Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477.
