AUSTIN (KXAN) — The men who were killed in three separate, fatal December wrecks were identified by Austin police Thursday as detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding each death.
“The Mercedes and the Honda crashed in the intersection,” officials wrote. “The Honda was damaged on the right side and the Mercedes was damaged on the front end.”
In the same month, 22-year-old motorcyclist Elijah Perales was killed on North MoPac Expressway in northwest Austin on Dec. 21.
“The 2016 Indian motorcycle driven by Elijah Perales was stopped on the right shoulder of N Mopac SB when an SUV, also traveling southbound, drifted to the right and struck Perales,” officials wrote.
Just nine days later, Corbin Sabillon-Garcia, 38, was killed after he was thrown from the pickup truck he was riding in, officials wrote. The wreck took place in southeast Austin at near East State Highway 71 and US 183. Officials say the truck went across SH 71 and the ramp for US Highway 183 and rolled before it came to a stop. Sabillon-Garcia was thrown from the truck and killed at the scene. The driver of the truck, Prospero Campos-Baladez, 37, was taken to St. David’s South Austin Hospital for treatment and was later charged with intoxicated manslaughter.
Austin police are investigating all three wrecks. Anyone with information about any of the wrecks is asked to call APD’s vehicular homicide unit at (512) 974-6935 or submit tips on APD’s mobile app.
