AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department is investigating after a man was found dead in a northwest Austin neighborhood Thursday afternoon. The death is being considered Austin’s 88th homicide of the year.

Officers said the investigation took place in the 12200 block of Old Stage Trail. That’s near Millwright Parkway in the Anderson Mill area.

Around 2:30 p.m., APD said officers responded to the area for a welfare check. Someone called in, reporting a dead person was inside a home.

When officers got there, they found a Hispanic man in his 30s dead with injuries to his body. APD said evidence indicates a possible disturbance occurred. The victim was pronounced dead at 3:12 p.m. by EMS.

On Jan. 4, 2022, APD identified the victim as Christopher Lozano, 48.

No one else was inside the home, APD said. It appears to be an isolated incident, with no threat to the public. The Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office is set to do an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.

Police said they have a person of interest in mind, and they’re trying to find them. Anyone with details about the case is asked to call the APD Homicide Unit at (512) 974-TIPS.
