AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department is investigating after a person was shot and killed in east Austin.

The department initially tweeted that it was investigating a suspicious death, and during a Friday night briefing, an officer said it was a shooting.

It happened at the MAA apartment complex on Ed Bluestein Blvd. Service Road around 7:30 p.m.

A caller told police they heard shots fired in the apartment complex, and when police arrived, officers found blood in and around the apartment.

Another witness said they saw a vehicle, possibly white, leave the scene and a person may have been shooting into the air out of the vehicle.

The victim was a Hispanic male in his late 20s. After he was shot, police said he was taken to a hospital by a civilian and he died there.
