Police: Driver intentionally kills man in southeast Austin hit-and-run

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man was killed after being hit by a driver in southeast Austin, Thursday afternoon.

Police are investigating the incident as an “intentional hit-and-run.”

Austin-Travis County EMS medics were called to the intersection of East Oltorf Street and Huntwick Drive at 3:09 p.m. The victim was pronounced dead about 10 minutes later at the scene.

Multiple 911 calls were made reporting a female driver in a red sedan leaving after the crash. Police said the sound of the car’s impact with the man was so loud that people nearby mistook it for a gunshot.

Police say the driver and suspect knew each other and that multiple witnesses were walking with the victim when the incident happened and recognized the driver.

APD says they have identified a possible suspect and are working to file a warrant to make an arrest.

A police spokesperson said they do not know what the motive was yet, but witnesses told APD the suspect and victim were friends.

The victim’s family says he was 30 years old.
