Pilot of Cessna makes emergency landing east of Austin airport

Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Two people on board a Cessna escaped injury after they had to make an emergency landing just east of Austin airport Friday afternoon.

The Austin Fire Department says the initial call came in just after 1:30 p.m and reported a Cessna plane crashed short of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

Firefighters found the plane,  a 2000 Cessna 173R, upright and intact in a grassy field off Heine Farm Road and Elroy Road. Two people on board the plane got out of the plane uninjured but they’re currently being evaluated by Austin-Travis County EMS.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is waiting for the National Transportation Safety Board to arrive to assess the situation.
