AUSTIN (KXAN) — Starting Monday, the pick-up location will change for taxis, rideshares, and rental car drop off services at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
The change in the pick-up location for taxis and rideshares will reduce vehicle congestion by approximately 3,700 cars per day, according to Airport spokesperson Derick Hackett.
Now pick-up and drop-off services for taxis and rideshares will operate at the ground of the Rental Car Facility.
Here are the steps you need to take to find the new pick up area:
- Exit the terminal from the upper level and take one of the marked pedestrian crosswalks through the garage towards the rental car facility.
- Then take the stairs or elevator down one floor to level G. there you will find the new “Ride App Pickup Area” and your taxi or rideshare driver.
ABIA officials said that they will provide new walkways to cross the garage and reach the pick-up location, and mobility assistance vehicles will be available from the garage to the Rental Car Facility.
Uber says its app will provide pickup information for when you’re at the airport. This change does not affect drop-offs.
With the new rollout happening during the heart of the Thanksgiving travel week, many people arriving in Austin, and drivers, were caught off guard by the change.
Here’s what they had to say:
“It’s not very clear where you’re going, and the app doesn’t help you either,” said traveler Vinay Palagar.
“I went around four times, but I blame the company for that, they didn’t tell us,” said Uber Driver Wilfred Broussard.
“Aside from just being personally embarrassed that I couldn’t find the thing, everything else was fine,” said traveler Joey King.
“It’s confusing for us, imagine for the passengers,” said Uber Driver Elkyeen Higuera.
