AUSTIN (KXAN) — Within a couple of hours of kicking off the Summer Fan Drive at Threadgill’s on West Riverside Drive, KXAN and Family Eldercare raised nearly $9,000 and more than 200 fans.
By Friday evening, the total swelled to approximately $154,000, with more than 650 fans donated.
Jim Spencer was out there during KXAN News Today and the event started at 7 a.m. with plenty of pancakes. People started dropping off fans and the music started at 9 a.m. and ran through 1 p.m.
By 12:30 p.m., more than $45,000 was raised and more than 600 fans were donated. Walmart employees made a huge donation of 200 fans that helped contributed to the total.
People who couldn’t make it to Threadgill’s, went by Hanovers 2.0 in Round Rock from 4-8 p.m. to drop off a fan (or donate money!) and enjoyed music and drinks with other members of KXAN.
On Thursday, KXAN’s Sally Hernandez and John Dabkovich spent time dropping off fans to residents at the Chalmers Court Apartments.
The big Fan Drive kickoff was part of KXAN’s parent company Nexstar’s Founder’s Day initiative. Founder’s Day events were held by news stations across the country to promote community involvement and give back to the cities we serve.
