AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin-Bergstrom International Airport officials are warning travelers to arrive at the airport early over the next few days.
Security lines are not long, with the average wait time for security being around 10 minutes.
Anyone planning to park at the airport, however, may need to allow some extra time. ABIA’s regular economy parking lots are full.
“There’s a very high likelihood we’ll be using overflow parking for the duration of the holiday travel season,” said ABIA spokesperson Kaela Harmon.
Harmon says, if possible, it’s a good idea for anyone traveling in the next few days to catch a ride to the airport.“Anything you can do to avoid the parking situation, you might as well go ahead and do it,” Harmon said, “If you can get somebody to drop you off, if you can use a ride share.”
If that’s not an option, travelers are advised to arrive two hours early to allow plenty of time to find overflow parking or use a commercial service and be shuttled in.
Although security lines haven’t been too long this holiday season, Harmon also warns they do take longer to get through during peak travel hours. Anyone flying early in the morning, around noon or in the evening over the next few days should plan for extra time to check bags and get through security.
