Overnight traffic fatality in San Marcos closed portion of I-35 for hours

SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) — Authorities responded to a traffic fatality in San Marcos late Friday night that closed a portion of Interstate Highway 35 for a few hours, according to a release from the city of San Marcos.

The crash occurred at the Highway 123 overpass at I-35 at exit 202 around 10:45 p.m. during severe weather. The crash was between a 2010 Honda and a 2014 Ford F150. Witnesses told police a female passenger of the Ford was unresponsive.

Once police and EMS arrived at the scene CPR was administered on the woman and she was brought to Seton Medical Center in Kyle Texas to undergo surgery. Her status and the extent of her injuries are still unknown.

The driver of the Honda, identified as 68-year-old Pedro Roman-Abaraca of New Braunfels, was taken to Central Texas Medical Center. he later died from his injuries.

According to the investigation by the San Marcos Police Collision Investigation Team, Roman-Abaraca lost control of his vehicle, striking the concrete divider and crashed into the Ford. 

The driver of the Ford was uninjured and the driver of the I-35 was closed for about two hours.
