One treated for smoke inhalation at Austin apartment fire

Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A cigarette is to blame for a two-alarm apartment fire that happened just off North MoPac and Far West Boulevard.

The fire started around 7:40 p.m. at the Avistar at Wood Hollow Apartments located at 7201 Wood Hollow Dr. When firefighters arrived, there was fire coming through the roof.

Firefighters found a patient in a first-floor apartment with minor injuries. Austin-Travis County EMS says a woman in her 60s was taken to the hospital to be evaluated for smoke inhalation.

Investigators say the cause of the fire was an improperly discarded cigarette.

The Austin Fire Department said the fire is under control as of 8:10 p.m. A apartment unit was gutted by the fire while four adjoining apartments had water damage.
