OAK HILL, Texas (KXAN) — A brand new hospital will break ground Wednesday morning in southwest Austin along US Highway 290 near Roadrunner Lane.
Baylor Scott & White’s Austin Oak Hill medical center will offer inpatient hospital services and specialty care including orthopedics, cardiology, dermatology, general surgery, gastroenterology, neurology, obstetrics and gynecology, urology, podiatry and primary care. A clinic will also be located on site.
This hospital will add to the few in the area including St. David’s South Austin Medical Center.
For neighbors Thomas and Rachelle Yarnall, it’s a welcome change.
“It’s really good to see, good to know that there’s going to be a hospital coming in,” said Thomas. “More resources available for the more serious type of things.”
He and his wife moved to southwest Austin a year ago from Kansas for work. They are just a few of the 160,000 that have moved to the Capital City since 2010 up until last year.
“The reason for that location is it’s a really fast growth area,” said Jay Fox, regional president for Baylor Scott & White. “We really think that’s a good thing for us to be in the long term.”
With the area expected to continue to grow, the Yarnalls say they want to make sure they and their neighbors are taken care off.
“Hoping we don’t have to use it, but glad it’s there,” said Rachelle. “It will be there if we do.”
Baylor Scott & White says its goal is to become a one-stop shop for the community. The groundbreaking will take place on site 5243 US 290 West at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
