Motorcyclist killed in crash with truck in northeast Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A motorcyclist died after a collision with a truck in northeast Austin Wednesday night.

Austin-Travis County EMS medics were called to East Howard Lane and Cape Horn for the crash at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and alerted drivers to avoid the area.

The man, identified as Manuel Gouveia, 54, was taken to Round Rock Medical Center, where he later died. No other people were taken to the hospital.

The 1998 Ford F-150 was driving west in the left lane on East Howard Lane when the motorcyclist came out of a private drive at 508 E. Howard Lane, according to police. There is an intersection at that area and a stop sign. Police say the motorcyclist pulled out in front of the truck. The driver tried to stop, but couldn’t.

Officers said they did not know if speed or alcohol were factors in the crash. The location of the crash was initially given as the intersection of Howard Lane and Dessau Road, but was later corrected to the 500 block of East Howard Lane near Cape Horn.
