More than 60,000 pounds of dog food given to local shelters

It’s a party for pups, and a local pet store is providing the food. More than 60,000 pounds of donated dog food went to dozens of shelters and rescues in the Austin area Thursday.

For more than 10 years, Tomlinson’s Feed and Pets has hosted a Pound4Pounds Pick-Up Party. During the holidays, it hosts food drives where it will match dog food donations. This year it had enough donations to fill the equivalent of two semi trucks.

Beverly Hadley, Central Texas SPCA shelter manager, says they look forward to the event every year.

“Because the food we get from Tomlinson’s goes directly to our animals, then we can use the money we would have spent on food for healthcare or other ways to help these dogs,” Hadley said during an interview on KXAN News Today as she held a puppy in her lap  — one of the dogs that will soon benefit from the food. Little “Tank” will be up for adoption in a few weeks.
