SAN MARCOS (KXAN) — A man swept away in floodwaters Friday night and found dead Saturday morning has been identified by the Hays County Sheriff’s office.
The man, identified as 55-year-old Michael Brandon Hurlbut, was reported missing out of the Dripping Springs area Friday evening during severe weather.
According to Hays County Sheriff Gary Cutler, Hurlbut was swept away in his car while driving on Highway 150.
Authorities searched for him all night but had to suspend their search at midnight. Hurlbut was found Saturday around 12:30 p.m.
The sheriff’s office got calls about 30 high water rescues in a 12-hour span from Friday evening into Saturday morning, and about seven of those calls turned out to be rescues. Of those, two people were rescued by helicopter, one was by boat and the rest were done on foot.
Crews with Williamson County, Johnson City Fire Department, Kyle Fire Department, San Marcos and Hays County EMS and STARflight all helped.
