Matthew McConaughey to cut Breckyn Hager’s hair after Longhorns win

NEW ORLEANS (KXAN) — He didn’t win the Big 12 Championship, but now that the Longhorns won the Sugar Bowl, defensive end Breckyn Hager is cutting his long hair. The person who will hold the scissors? Matthew McConaughey.

Hager said Tuesday night that was his plan, but there weren’t any further details about when it would happen.

Three years ago, as a freshman, Hager vowed to not cut his hair until he won a Big 12 Championship. Back then, his curly hair was at his ears. Now, it’s halfway down his back.

Unfortunately, Texas lost to the University of Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship Dec. 1.

But, the team’s win Tuesday proved to be a perfect excuse for Hager to shed some inches. McConaughey, a UT Austin graduate and strong supporter of the team who traveled to New Orleans to watch them win, seemed like a natural choice to do the honors.
