Bob Wentz possible missing swimmer - lake travis

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Hours after renewing the search for a missing man near Bob Wentz Park, a body was recovered around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The man, identified as Ricardo Sierra Martinez, 27, of Mexico, was last seen in Lake Travis near Bob Wentz Park Sunday afternoon. Friends reported seeing Martinez swim out to a small island in the lake and relax on land. A little more than half an hour later, he was gone. Officials said Sunday they weren’t sure if he was in the water or had left.

On Tuesday morning, Travis County Sheriff’s Office deputies expanded their search area to include the water around Sometimes Island.

Austin-Travis County EMS says the body of a man was found floating in the water a few hours after the search was resumed.

Officials searched the shoreline and did an aerial search Sunday, while dive teams, boats with sonar and a helicopter searched Monday.

So far this year three people have disappeared in Lake Travis. Manuel Salas, 53, disappeared while swimming near his family’s boat May 5 near Mansfield Dam Park. Rachel Kathleen Scott, 25, fell off a party barge near Volente Beach on May 19. Their bodies have not been found. The body of Diego Humberto Cerda-Acosta, 30, was recovered on May 28, one day after he jumped into Lake Travis near Bob Wentz Park to help a struggling swimmer.
