Man killed while crossing S. Congress Ave Friday identified


AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man who was killed after being hit by a car on South Congress Avenue Friday was identified Monday by the Austin Police Department. 

The wreck took place just before 8:20 p.m. Friday near the intersection of South Congress Avenue and Cloudview Drive. 

“Two pedestrians were crossing mid-block in the unlit portion of South Congress Avenue,” police wrote in a press release. A white Chrysler traveling northbound hit 45-year-old Carlos Cardenas Jr., and he was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The driver of the Chrysler remained at the scene and cooperated with police. No charges are expected to be filed against the driver.
