Man killed in Sunday crash on I-35 identified by police

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A driver killed in a crash in south Austin that sent two cars off the road Sunday has been identified, according to Austin police.

Police report that a Hyundai Elantra and a Toyota Camry were traveling north at the 12100 block of Interstate Highway 35 around 11:35 p.m.

The driver of the Camry tried to move into the lane the Elantra was driving in when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle. Both cars careened off the road, and the Elantra struck a tree.

The driver of the Elantra, identified as 52-year-old Patrick Leonard Ervin, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Camry was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The incident marks this year’s 29th fatal traffic crash of the year and 30th fatality. Police are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact APD’s Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at (512) 974-5594.
