Man killed in head-on crash on South Pleasant Valley Dr. identified

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man died and two women were rushed to the hospital after a collision in southeast Austin Tuesday morning.

The man, identified Wednesday by Austin police as 33-year-old Jarrod Wayne Sowers, died at the scene at 500 S. Pleasant Valley Road near the Krieg Softball Complex, according to Austin-Travis County EMS.

Austin police say Sowers was traveling southbound on Pleasant Valley Road in a Hyundai when he crossed the center yellow line and into the northbound lanes for an unknown reason, crashing into a Toyota vehicle head-on.

Another Toyota traveling northbound couldn’t stop in time and crashed into the first Toyota, police said.

The drivers of both Toyotas were taken to South Austin Medical Center and have non-life-threatening injuries.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call the APD Vehicular Homicide Unit at 512-974-8544.
