Man killed attempting to cross IH-35 on foot over the weekend identified

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The man who was killed in a crash Sunday after attempting to cross a portion of Interstate Highway 35 on foot has been identified, according to Austin police.

Austin Police Department is reporting this as the 22nd traffic fatality of 2019, and it occurred at the 5300 block of North Interstate Highway 35, near 51st Street.

The preliminary investigation shows that Aric Maxwell, 46, attempted to cross N. IH-35 from westbound to eastbound when he was struck by a Chevy Equinox traveling southbound in the inside lane. 

Maxwell was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas where he died from his injuries. The driver of the Equinox remained on scene and showed no signs of impairment. No charges are expected to be filed.

At this time in 2018, there were 19 fatal traffic crashes and 20 traffic fatalities.
