Man hurt in hit-and-run on I-35 service road in central Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Austin Police say a man was hurt early Tuesday morning in central Austin after he was hit by a driver who did not stay at the scene. The man was struck on the southbound service road of Interstate 35 at 53 1/2 Street just after 12:30 a.m.

Austin-Travis County EMS says paramedics took the man to Dell Seton Medical Center with critical life-threatening injuries. Austin Police say the man was still alive as of 3 a.m.

Police had one lane of the southbound service road shut down for a few hours but have since reopened the lane.
