Man hit, killed by train in south Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man was hit and killed by a train early Monday morning in south Austin, according to Austin-Travis County EMS.

The crash happened around 4:40 a.m. near W. St. Elmo Road and Mount Vernon Drive. That area is south of W. Ben White Boulevard.

EMS says the man died at the scene.

Union Pacific confirmed its coal train was involved in the crash and that it is sending investigators out. It says no one on the train was hurt and the train was not damaged. The train is heading to Wyoming, and the original crew will be replaced with a new one once the train is cleared to leave.
