AUSTIN (KXAN) — A pedestrian who was critically injured after being hit by a car while trying to cross Interstate 35 on March 17, died in the hospital on Saturday, according to a news release from the Austin Police Department.
Police say it was about 9:30 p.m. when 53-year-old Earnest Turner tried to cross the eastbound lanes of the 35 block of I-35, an area between East Riverside Drive and Cesar Chavez Street in downtown Austin. He was hit by a driver in a silver Nissan Altima, police say.
Turner was critically injured and was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas. After spending days in the hospital, he was pronounced dead on Saturday.
The driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas. Police say they found no signs of impairment and no charges are expected to be brought against the driver.
This is the 13th fatal collision in Austin this year.
