AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man hit and killed walking across South Congress Avenue last week was identified Monday.
Austin police say James Taylor Bourgeois, 55, was crossing the road about 150 feet from a light with a crosswalk. A man driving a pickup truck was driving north in the far right lane and was getting ready to move to turn right onto Stassney Lane when he hit Bourgeois. The driver told police he did not see him.
Bourgeois died at the scene. Austin police say the driver stayed at the scene and “there were no signs of impairment,” according to a release.
There have been 18 fatal crashes in Austin so far this year and 19 people have died. In comparison, at this time last year, there were 19 fatal crashes and 20 people died.
