AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man’s body was found in a burning boat parked at a home in central Austin early Thursday, according to a tweet from the Austin Fire Department.
Just after 6:30 a.m., the Austin Fire Department tweeted that fire crews extinguished a fire on a large boat parked at the 900 block of E 56th Street. On board, crews found the body of a man.
It is still unclear how the fire started or who was inside. Neighbors we spoke to said the flames reached several feet into the air. They were shocked by this incident.
“It’s a real surprise. This is a very quiet neighborhood, especially between 35th and Airport, like we are. It’s very quiet,” said David Hewitt, who has lived in the neighborhood for 12 years.
Hewitt said that boat belongs to a family living nearby. It’s common to see it sitting on the side of the street.
