AUSTIN (KXAN) — One man is dead and another in critical condition after a shooting at a central Austin hotel in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The shooting was reported at about 3:53 a.m. in the parking lot of the La Quinta Inn near the southwest corner of Interstate 35 and Koenig Lane.

The two victims were found at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds each and were rushed to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas in critical condition. Bruce Martinez, 38, later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 4:20 a.m. The other victim is in stable condition but is unable to speak with investigators.

Several suspects were involved in the shooting, police say and one suspect left the parking lot in a black Dodge Charger. That car was later found abandoned at on the East Riverside Drive overpass near I-35 riddled with bullet holes. Investigators towed the car and are waiting on a search warrant to investigate further.

Jasmine Adams, a security guard at La Quinta Inn told KXAN she was doing her rounds in the early hours of Wednesday when she heard gunshots in the parking lot. She noticed a man running and yelling for help trying to get inside the lobby.

“I was terrified,” Adams said of the moments she heard the gunshots ring out.

Another man was killed hours before at Givens Park in east Austin. There are several suspects in that homicide as well and police have not yet ruled out the possibility that the two shootings might be connected.
